Mother's Day: Blessings, tests & a Miracle.

What a day! The Blessings: 2 children, not yet teens and no longer babies. Wonderful, loving, thinking, questioning, and trusting creatures. Alas...they are also challenging, drama-queens, blaming and greedy too! All these things are blessings. Gifts Extrordinaire straight from God.

"Don't get too greedy or too cocky now child (this is God talking to me in my own little Mother's day cartoon) ...you are a good mother but you still have a lot to learn"

Seven,,,,count them... seven hours of homework for one of the Blessings over the course of Mother's day. The other decided that he needed to pick this day to challenge me/test me big-time. "I am NOT! going to the store with you Mummy, I want to stay here and play with my friend" "No, Hunny, you need to come with us, its Mother's day and I want to spend some time together, you have been playing with your friend all morning and for more than half of the afternoon" .. "No No No! Mother's day is the day that I give you a gift and THATS ALL!"

Lord give me patience.....

...and several moments later when we are just arriving at the store, I reach for his little hand and he pulls away. Thats ok...he needs to have some independance, and he is keeping close enough to be safe. Then, as we walk over the cross-walk I reach again for his hand...he lets me take it, and we look at each other. A sweet moment is shared. With the eyes and the hearts the following is said: "I still love you Mummy", "I know sweetheart, and I will always love you too"

Thank you God for this day, and these children. Please soothe the hearts of Mothers with children who are sick today, or dying, or gone. Lord God thank you for these Blessings, and for each day I have with them. Help me to learn to raise them in your way. In Gods name Amen.

Dang! I DO NOT remember ever having 7 hours of homework in grade school. How can anyone under 23 years of age cope with that? (just an arbitrary #...23) But my little snippet of a pre-pubescent attitude with long hair and big eyes had just that much work to do today. AND I WAS NOT LEFT OUT OF THE LOOP! yes I translated, struggled and encouraged.... I defended, explained and puzzled right along with said older child. Until we were both blue in the face. But..somehow we ended the day with laughter, smiles and cuddles before "goodnight was said." A Mother's Day Miracle - thank You.
